Daily Post March - 31
Today we were just mainly helping out with gallop. They had students come and ride horses, so we were just sidewalking. The whole day was kind of boring, there wasn't much to do. All day we just helped Gallop.

Daily Post - March 27
Today has to be the most exciting day so far in my internship. Samsam (instructor) told us that she would be teaching us how to ride in the park. We took two horses, she rode one and i lead the other one. In the oark it was fun riding, i think we all enjoyed it. but the problem was going back. Samsam told trofim and kate to stop the traffic (because horses go crazy when cars go by them) and trofim and kate did a "pathetic" (samsam said that) job stopping the traffic. while cars are passing by and trofim and kate are just standing there the two horses went crazy. My horse started rearing up and running all over the place while i hang on to him for dear life and samsam is screaming at kate and trofim to move their lazy butt and stop the traffic. (I don't know why they were just standing there?) After calming my horse down we quickly walked back to the stables.

Daily Post- March 26
Today we arrived early at the internship site. I had an idea that we would go and chill out at the park. After changing Trofim asked Walker (the big boss) if we could go with one of the instructor to the park. Walker agreed and we went with her. Kate was too dumb to go with us and walk in the park so she decided to sit in the chair ouside for 3 hours and then she calls us dumb for going to the park. In the park we helped samsam (instructor) with the horses and just walking along her and the student. It was a nice day and it was fun going to the park.

Daily Post - March 25
Today it was just me and Trofim. Kate had to go somewhere. We just sat there for a LONG time. Then we started to groom some horses and went to get something to eat. There was not something out of the ordinary. It was kind of boring.

Daily post - March 24
Today our regular mentor was not here. She went somewhere (i don't know where, kate knows). Today our new mentor was this girl that we met for the first time. She and another guy named Johnny will be our mentors untill our regular mentor gets back. In the beginig we groomed some horses. Then we helped gallop even up the ring with rakes. Then Johnny made us move horse manure into a little tiny room with rakes. Kate was just watching us. Then he made us clean plates, i was just hosing them down and kate was scrubbing them. Johnny got pissed at trofim because he didn't help. He made trofim clean a very dirty horse because he was lazy before.

Third Week Assignment

Describe one significant activity or project that you have completed or are working on currently.
In my opinion the most significant activity i have done so far is to ride a horse on my own. I have never rode a horse and it was very exciting and scary to ride one now. when you are on the ground you don't think about the height of the horse, but when you are on top of the horse you're very tall. everyone looks small where your sitting, and every little movement the horse makes you can feel it. it is hard to follow what they are telling you to do because you are trying your best not to fall off. At first it was fine when she was holding the horse and walking it, but then she let go of it and i had to steer it. luckily the horse didn't give me much trouble and it followed what i wanted. The part i hated was when the horse started to run. it was very painful bouncing up and landing hard on the saddle on the horse. During that we had to spread out our arms and not hold on. That's why i think this experience was the most significant i had yet. i am sure we will do more fun things in the future.

In the second week we learned further more how to properly clean a horse. But most importantly i actually rode a horse by myself. This week was very progressive.

What is something that you really like about the internship?
I like the fact that we are working with horses and we get to ride them. i mean come on how many new york high school students get to hang around with horses all day and ride them?
What is something you dislike about the internship?
I dislike the first 5 min of each day because it take us that long to get used to the smell, other than that i love it,

The End of the First Week of Internships
Please describe your internship site by answering the following questions...
What is it?
My internship is at kensington stables. It is a place where you can learn how to ride horses, rent horses (ride them in the park), and where you can rent ponies for parties.
What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?
kensington stables is privatly owned by Mr. Walker (my mentor), he is the head guy there, his family gave him the stables in 1991, they had for almost a hundred years!
Where is it?
kensington stables is at the corner of prospect park, in canton place and east 8th street.
Tell a little about your mentor.
I have more than one mentor, more like 3. But the head guy in charge is Walker the owner (he isn't around much). The second one is Gallop, it is a non-profit company that works with kensington stables to help disabled childern ride horses (we only see them 2 times a week) our mentor there is Alicia or Suzie. Our third mentor is a girl named Chelsy, she is 17 years old and also doing internship. She is very tough and makes us work a lot (she is the one that is around most of the time).
What happened on the first day?
On the first day it took us a while to get used to the smell. At first we were nervouse and scared, but luckily Alicia from Gallop was there and she was very friendly. we helped them prepair some horses and helped a kid ride on one.
What kinds of things have you done so far?
We started to learn how to groom a horse and pick its hoofs. we are getting more comforatble around the horses.
What were some of the highlights of the first week? (Memorable moments, cool things...)
Fran made each one of us pick up a horse's leg and clean it, it was very tough because it was our first time doing it.
Please answer some logistical questions...
When do you leave school?
I leave school around 11:40.
How long does it take you to get to your internship?
We usually arrive around 12:55.
When do you arrive at home?
I usually get home at 4:45.
What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)
I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for 3 hours eachday. some times i stay an hour extra.
Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)
There are a lot of people who sign my time card. untill now 5 diffrent people signed it.
